Make Music Madison at Giant Jones

Make Music Madison is a free, citywide day of music every June 21. We are part of Make Music Day, a celebration that occurs in 1,000+ cities across the globe. Madison began participating in 2013 and now boasts the largest event in the country. Parks, porches, restaurants, shops, worship spaces and more fill with music for all to enjoy!

We’re always excited to host local talent here at Giant Jones. This year we will be hosting the following musicians:

Benjamin Scully at 12pm – Benjamin Scully is a solo singer/songwriter, indie rock artist based in Madison and incorporates a unique mix of covers and originals into live sets. Musical influences include The Lumineers, Colony House, David Ramirez, Michigander, and Matthew Thiessen.

BZ 2.0 at 1pm- Inspired by many artists, Bryan Zoran (BZ 2.0) plays covers by musicians who have influenced him across multiple genres.

ravenswing at 2pm – ravenswing is a band that plays like they’re dancing, weaving together the brilliance of Scottish repertoire with the gritty drive of New England contra dance rhythms. While Abi Sandy and Crystal Zhu grew up playing music across New England and New York, the duo came together in Scotland while traveling with the Edinburgh University Folk and Traditional Music Society, bonding over their shared love for community through music and dance on both sides of the Atlantic. Since then, their joyful arrangements and compositions have energized concert halls and dance floors across New England, the Midwest, and the UK. Their love for the places they have been and the people they have played with shines through every set they play.

3pm – TBD

Between Two Lakes at 4pm – Between Two Lakes is a pop-rock powerhouse band hailing from the picturesque Isthmus of their namesake, between the lakes of Monona and Mendota. Formed in 2023, this talented group quickly became a sonic force to be reckoned with, captivating audiences with their infectious melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and dynamic performances.

Strike! w/ Wonderporium – Silent Movie/Live Music Night

Come to Giant Jones for a silent movie screening of Russian auteur Sergei Eisenstein’s first full-length feature, Strike!

Set just before the 1905 Bolshevik Revolution, depicts a workers’ strike against their oppressive factory bosses. When a worker is accused of stealing a piece of machinery, he commits suicide, and his fellow employees revolt against the Czarist regime controlling the factory. As the strike drags on and government officials grow more desperate to end it, their methods of dealing with the rebellious workers become grislier.

This screening will be accompanied by live music from Madison’s own Wonderporium!

Wonderporium is an ensemble specializing in improvised music. Based in Madison, WI, the trio combines acoustic instruments, synthesized sound, and live effects processing to craft dynamic large-scale sonic environments. Their fully improvised performances are marked by a distinctive blend of eclectic contrasts and cinematic depth, offering an ever-evolving auditory experience.

Tickets ($15) are available now for this one of a kind movie experience.

You are welcome to bring in your own food, or you can order from our neighbors at The Deliciouser (until 9pm).

Movie starts at 8pm! (Our tasting room is open at 3pm.)

Jon Irabagon Live at Giant Jones

We love music here at Giant Jones, especially jazz, so we’re very excited that our friend Jon Irabagon is going to play at our tasting room!

Join us to celebrate the collaborative spirit that music and beer fosters! Jon Irabagon, whose most recent album, Someone to Someone, lent inspiration to our own barrel-aged Belgian-style stout (of the same name), will be playing (and recording) a solo bass saxophone set here at Giant Jones, starting at 8 pm, Friday, December 12th!

The show is free!

Come say hi, listen in, enjoy some beers, purchase the album, and celebrate the joys of community and connection with us!

“Courage” Opening Reception by Kate Olsen Birner

We’ve got new art hanging on our walls from Kate Olsen Birner! Their work will be showcased here at Giant Jones through 9/14.

Kate is a visual artist based in southwestern Wisconsin. Their skills and specialties include, but are not limited to: portraits, painting, bottle cap mosaics, collage, mixed media and large-scale work.

They have been a working artist since college and an art educator for 35 years.

Their use of color and pattern is heavily influenced by the pre-Columbian and Native Peruvian (Quechua) artwork to which they were exposed as a child.

Stop by to meet the artist and check out their show “Courage”. There will also be live music from SoaringTortoise!
