DESCRIPTION:  \nBanned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in libraries\, bookstores\, and schools. Held in the last week of September or first week of October\, the annual event highlights the value of free and open access to information and brings together the entire book community — librarians\, educators\, authors\, publishers\, booksellers\, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas. \nWe’re teaming up with Republic of Letters out of Mineral Point to celebrate books! They’ll be here with a collection of books from their store that you will be able to purchase. We will also be having Banned Book Trivia questions throughout the night with prize giveaways! \nIf you love books and literary freedom stop on by!

Moderated by Giant Jones Brewer Jessica Jones\, this casual panel brings together LGBTQ+ voices from the city’s hospitality\, media\, and organizing scenes to talk about how queer spaces are created\, sustained\, and reimagined.  \nWe will be joined by special guest\, journalist and author Erik Piepenburg. Inspired by Erik’s book Dining Out and his reporting on queer visibility in public life\, the conversation will look at how identity and community shape the spaces we gather in—both locally and nationally. \nPresented by Giant Jones in partnership with Destination Madison\, this event is part of a broader effort to uplift and celebrate Madison’s queer scene.
