DESCRIPTION:Join us for an opening reception for featured local artist\, Andy Ewen!\nAndy Ewen: Recent Drawings\nThe drawings in this exhibit were created using a process I refer to as “Semi-Automatic”. For the most part\, I just start by drawing a line or a shape\, and then let my imagination free associate in a manner akin to lucid dreaming.\nWhen I share my drawings on social media\, I usually make up some sort of title to go with them after they are completed. However\, for this display of my art\, I’m leaving it up to the viewer to provide their own interpretations.\nAll the drawings were created using either a combination of black pen and color pencil or just color pencil on paper.-Andy Ewen\nBorn in 1955\, Andy Ewen lived for the first 18 years of his life in a suburb of New York City on Long Island. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in art in 1980. During the 1980’s and 90’s he did a fair amount of illustration for publications such as The New York Times Book Review\, The Progressive and Isthmus among others. His work has appeared in gallery shows\, but he has little interest in the “art world”. During the late 1990’s\, Andy decided that the life of a professional illustrator wasn’t for him. In 1997\, he was hired by the UW Medical School\, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science analyzing ocular images for both research and clinical studies\, a position he held for 28 years.\nAndy has also been the lead singer\, guitarist and principal songwriter for Madison\, Wisconsin’s “Honor Among Thieves” band for over 40 years. He has also performed and recorded with many other groups and individuals as well as performing solo

English hops add a subtle herbal character and balancing bitterness. 10.4% ABV brings the heat and helps cut through the sweetness. Everything an English Barleywine should be! \nGreat Dane 2017 Vintage Old Scratch Barleywine (9.3% abv) \nAn ale brewed strong (i.e. to an alcohol strength comparable to wine) is called a barleywine. This vintage pays homage to its English roots.  Made with English Marris Otter malt\, with a prominent amount of caramel malt added giving a nice caramel character to the malty base. English Fuggle hops and English yeast give it lots of fruity “English” character. Then four years of aging fills out raisin and fig like flavors and mellows the Barleywine overall.  Well balanced and not too sweet\, this sipper is a rare treat. Try it while it lasts. \nSierra Nevada Bigfoot (9.6% abv) \nThe beast. The beer. The legend. After the workday grind\, reconnect with your wild side through our untamed barleywine-style ale. Which will be our current art show on display. \nThe “Transperience” exhibit aims to provide the experience of Trans persons who can sort through the confusion that swirls around their lives and embrace their authentic selves\, experience profound joy\, peace and gender euphoria not dysphoria. To be trans is to be misunderstood\, discriminated against\, bullied\, often rejected by spouses\, family\, friends\, and co-workers. DESCRIPTION:Come to Giant Jones for a silent movie screening of Russian auteur Sergei Eisenstein’s first full-length feature\, Strike! \nSet just before the 1905 Bolshevik Revolution\, depicts a workers’ strike against their oppressive factory bosses. When a worker is accused of stealing a piece of machinery\, he commits suicide\, and his fellow employees revolt against the Czarist regime controlling the factory. As the strike drags on and government officials grow more desperate to end it\, their methods of dealing with the rebellious workers become grislier. \nThis screening will be accompanied by live music from Madison’s own Wonderporium! \nWonderporium is an ensemble specializing in improvised music. Based in Madison\, WI\, the trio combines acoustic instruments\, synthesized sound\, and live effects processing to craft dynamic large-scale sonic environments. Their fully improvised performances are marked by a distinctive blend of eclectic contrasts and cinematic depth\, offering an ever-evolving auditory experience.  \nTickets ($15) are available now for this one of a kind movie experience. \nYou are welcome to bring in your own food\, or you can order from our neighbors at The Deliciouser (until 9pm). \nMovie starts at 8pm!
